secondary fan never worked then bam! Burning metal
 

Today going up a grade a constant eeeeeiii noise came from my motor. Pulled over and saw the secondary fan running on the front of the radiator. I turned Bessie off and rotated the fan with my key, and saw that it was hitting a mounting bracket on the back side. Some fresh metal scratches are present. Turned her back on and the fan stayed off.
So I think two issues?

One I just drove through death valley and didn't have this problem. I have never scene this fan turn on, even while working on the car when running on a hot day. So I take it came on randomly today for the first time. Lose connection maybe?

Two I didn't see anything bent that would cause the fan to hit the mount. Is there some mystery that the fan pulls forward when working properly?

Other random tidbits.The ac doesn't work at all. The climate control lights work intermittently. I drove this beauty in 115 degree weather NV-CA 9hrs with no hangups=) And I wouldn't recommend silver star motor in Oakland because he tried to sell me a bent oil pan for 50$ and broken window switches for 30$

it usually only turns on when the engine gets over 110C you may have a loose connection but i would check to make sure that your engine was within a good temperature. (There are two wires that go to the reciver/dryer that will turn the fan on when the freon gets to a certain temp. Take those off and put them together and the fan should tun on. If it doesnt then you have a wiring issue.

Have any idea why the fan would rub on an internal mount?
