Exclamation 84 w123 td wagon guide rod isssues

had a problem with front end wandering. checked brakes as advised. all was well. noticed the inner edge of front tires was gone, since i'd recently had a front end alignment i figured that the wear was the result of prealignment driving. so chaniged tires and in a month had a tire worn to the metal on inside edge again with other on its way.
had a mechanic look at it and discovered that there was play in the guide rod mount at the body.
how do you get that thing out. would prefer to do the work myself.
tried to pull one off of one of the parts cars but short of cutting it couldn't figure out how to get it off. didn't think the cutting parts would help the reinstall part of the job though.
how do you do this?
thanks

The only way to remove the guide rod mount short of taking off the lower control arm (LCA), is to jack the LCA and steering knuckle forward until you can unbolt the guide rod mount off the rod. This puts a lot of tweaking and pressure on the LCA bushing. So make sure you LCA bushing is not cracked and harden, or else your going to have to get a spring compressor remove the LCA to replace them anyways. Also, by jacking the LCA and steering knuckle forward, this puts pressure on the shock. Be sure to loosen up or remove the shock before going forward.
When doing this, the suspension angle will look extreme. As long as your bushings are fresh, there shouldn't be a problem and everything should fall back to its natural position once you have everything in place.
