Of banjo bolts, filters and etc for a diesel newbie

Ok I'm new to dieseldom. just got a 1983 300SD California version. 226,000 miles and counting. (actually turned 226,000 120 miles before I took possession.) A local diesel guy(trucker) said she runs very good.

My Question is this. Is there a tutorial for things to check on this car. I just had her detailed and the engine bay cleaned. I can find the engine that was under all that grime now. She still starts right up, so I guess that the cleaning didn't disrupt anything of an electrical nature.

I don't think my Aux fan is coming on as she is riding about 90 C instead of just over 80. It gets there really fast(2 miles).

I have found the fuel filter(screw on) and the inline filter. Another MB diesel owner showed me the primer on the IP yesterday. Showed me how to prime to get the air out after filter change. Trucker told me to fill the filter with diesel to prevent a large contamination with air too.

What I have done:
1. removed the emissions vacuum lines to the 3 way valve on top of the valve cover and replaced the correct 3 way vacuum connections with straight connectors. 3 way valve levers were TOAST. Need to block off the EGR and the tube connections, but will do that later.
2. Today i'm replacing the bad Cruise actuator with a used tested good one. Hope that IS the reason the cruise doesn't work. (PO's indy stated that the actuator was bad on a check list.
3. cleaning the tach sensor as it is full of fuel on at least 3 pins(may be why the tach doesn't work??? huh?)
looking for the reson that the air cleaner is floppy(I suspect mounts).
4. replacing the turbo intake spacer as it's GONE!.
5. checking the vaccum to the door locks as they don't work and could be a vacuum leak.

Any help for a newbie dieselhead would be appreciated.

first things first, if you have a TRAPOX, get down to the dealer ASAP and get that taken care of. they will replace your entire exhaust for free. (The way you can check is if you have a big, coffee can shaped thing right before the turbo on the exhaust side) Allways make sure you fill your filters up with fuel or else you will be priming for a long long time.

Where is this located? Pictures? Thanks.

Well the tach sensor or possibly the Cam sensor is the round up right electrical part. Looks like a port for a computer to be plugged into. Mine is on the drivers side fender well just above where the Cruise control actuator plugs into the electrical connector.
