Cut-away car on the Haynes Manual
Anybody ever notice that the car on the cover of the Haynes manual is a Euro 300D Turbo with SLS? It also has a cloth interior and rear headrests. :D
|
Believe it or not I loved the cutaway so much I cut it out with a razor and keep it on my desk

This is probably a dumb a$$ question, but i'll ask anyways. How do they make those cut-away pictures?

They get a car, cut holes in it and draw it. :D |
I don't know where I got this from but here's the wagon version (non diesel though, maybe a 200T or 230T)

Seems like a cutaway would be fairly easy for a talented CAD artist/drafter.
Build the car in AutoCAD. Make the skin on some sections "transparent". Done. |

doubtful this was done in cad. this is hand drawn by graphic artists. I see our Industrial Design guys do this all the time. It would take forever to model a car in cad, I have spent about 25 hours modeling a bellhousing in cad, i cant imagine doing a whole car |

I keep a copy of the manual in the crapper. ;) |
Artists of that caliber typically sign or watermark their work.
My copy of the sedan picture has the name Terry Davey displayed proudly ahead of the left rear wheel. Sixto 87 300D |
huh ill have to put my manual on top of the toilet so i can read it next time...

If you like Terry Davey's art -
