Redline Diesel Catalyst???
I was in Pep Boys yeasterday when I came across Redline's Synthetic "Diesel Catalyst." I was looking for the "Redline 85" as mentioned in another post... But this is all they had, and it promises a lot. However, I'm afraid to use it.... Is it any good? Once I use it, do I have to continue??? Being synthetic, will it hurt anything? Thanks in advance.

Yes, Redline DFC is good stuff. It's the same thing as 85. You should continue using it once you have started. (start off with one bottle of it in the fuel tank then 1/3 bottle thereafter) It acts by cleaning the combustion chambers, increases the cetane level, cleans injectors, adds lubricity to the fuel for the injection pump and other stuff I can't remember off hand. If you do a search, you will find alot of people recommend it including myself. I don't know what your concern is for using it. Herb '82 240D |

I am very curious regarding the technical reasons that require you to continue to use this product once you've started. Is it heroin for your car or what?

Hi Guys,
I just used my first container of Redline 85 ... while I was skeptical initially, I gotta admit it seems to start a bit easier ... maybe, just maybe, it idles a bit higher and smoother with less noise. It does not smoke on full throttle any more ... and, seems, in general, a bit "friendlier?" I could, on the other hand, be imagining much of this. Does this match anyone else's experience with this kind of product?

I have just, within the past couple hours, poured my first bottle of Redline DFC in my 300D prior to my fill up. Calculated milage on the last tank came to 23.4 mpg - combined city/hwy with the a/c on half the time - the return trip from work. Will be interesting to see if there is any difference. I will report back after I have gone through this tank.

I usually add about 3-4 ounces of DFC per fillup; typically 3 oz if I expect to take 10 gallons, and 4 oz if I'm getting 15 gallons or more. Works for me.

DFC and 85+ are exactly the same formulation. Check the archives here on the forums by using the search feature. Redline continued to make both products after creating a new formulation they were going to sell as 85+ after they discovered that it was better than the original DFC. They simply never changed over the DFC label to 85+ in order to maintain their existing customer base for DFC. And, Larry, this product is like vitamins for your diesel. The longer you use it, the better it works. I won't fill up my tank without adding a 1/3 of a bottle before doing so...

I bought and used a bottle of DFC. Since I was doing a "cleaning dose", I just dumped the whole bottle in. However, looking at the label, it doesn't ell you how much to add for routine use. The outside of the bottle is marked in ounces, but there is no mention on the label of many ounces to add to each fill up.

I thought it said somewhere on the bottle that a whole bottle would treat up to 100 gallons of diesel fuel. Lots of us use double or triple this amount. My mechanic adds a full bottle with each oil change, and I use 3-4 oz per fill up.

Redline Math, 101...
The bottle of Redline 85 Plus I have in front of me says on it that it "Treats 25 gallons for cleanup dose. Treats 100 gallons for antiwear, and to improve cleanliness and efficiency."
It is marked as a 12 ounce bottle, so 12 ounces divided by 100 gallons equals 0.12 ounces per gallon, times 20 gallons equals 2.4 ounces per fill-up. However, Redline has advised me that Mercedes diesels should use about one-third of a bottle per fill-up to compensate for lower cetane rated fuel in North America. That would be 4 ounces per tankful. Incidentaly, although Redline is known for manufacturing synthetic lubricants, the word synthetic is never used in descriptions of either DFC or 85+.
