Fuel return lines.

I noticed today that one of the fuel return lines was saturated with diesel fuel. Wouldn't you know it's the hardest one to put back on(right beside the bracket). I trimmed the ends a bit, enough to see that the line wasn't cracked or broken, and to get a good purchase on the nipples. Engine was rather warm so I left that end off for awhile. Little did I know, that fuel would siphon out the open nipple! Bottom line I got the return back on and all is good no fuel soaked return lines. Now to get the gasket replaced under the oil cap as that is leaking. The elbow on the vapor tube at the valve cover needs to be replaced also, but I think I can speed clamp it on until I get a new one here. I replaced the rubber elbow from the air cleaner to the tube.
I'm learning so much about this diesel.

I had her out on the freeway this morning and she'll run at least 80, but likes 65-70 much better. Didn't get any hotter than normal. this car must run a little warmer than my SEC or the SE did. At 80 she was just as cool as at 50 on the regular hwy.

If the return lines are on the injectors triming them back will only buy you time. By the time they leak at the nipple area the return hose has lost a lot of the elasticity it had and they will crack again. Better to look for a cheap source of hose now as it cost a lot at the dealer.
