Ignition/transmission question on 84 TD
When I bought the 84 wagon last month the guy said it needed to be put into neutral so that the car would start. Then later revised his statement (because I couldnt get it restarted) and said that I need to put it into drive then neutral to assure I am in nuetral gear. Now as long as I do that, I turn the key and it starts up and runs fine. Here's the thing though
THats not the way its suppose to work Yah that was a no-brainer comment. I dont know exactly what is causing this problem, but thought perhaps in someone's great wisdom they might have some guidance for me. Thanks in advance |

You might want to check for bushing wear in the linkage to start with. Bushing is changeable.

Also check the neutral safety switch.

Is there a DIY link somewhere on here that shows how to fix that

I have read on some of the other models that you have to drill out the pieces holding in the switch, is that true for my particular car or is it bolted on
