Timming Chain replacement....
 

Hey guy's
I have been reading many threads about timing chain replacements and I'm a little worried now:confused:.Should I be worried about replacing them on both of my cars?
I personally don't see it has being a very difficult job to do,having all the right tools and proper parts as being German made etc etc.
Is there anyone on line right now who has done this before and give me some insight?

Basically you check for elongation. Set the cam timing marks and see how far off the crank is from the TDC pointer. MB sells offset keys for the cam sprocket to bring cam timing back into spec. You should probably check cam timing if you use an offset key. If elongation is beyond the range of offset keys, it's definitely time to roll in a new chain.

These engines are not known for snapping chains but it happens :/

As to the process, you break a link in the old chain, attach the new chain, roll it through the engine by turning the crank, then crimp the new chain ends together. No need to take apart the front of the engine as with other designs.
