84 300D still not starting

I have an 84 300D and I have tired everything in the world.... Car has plenty of fuel and will crank and crank and crank but it just wont start up... the motor cranks more than fast enough to start and white smoke putters from the back but the car just wont turn over. I popped the line off the injecters today and checked and they had fuel, I pumped the primer and the fuel didn't move or anything... Is it stopped up somewhere?

What about a compression check? Have you tried hooking up fuel lines like when it's time for a diesel purge?

Timlewak 07-02-2008 05:48 PM

I have no clue on how to do that.

Which one? Compression check uses a guage that is screwed in to each cylinder.

To do a purge, fill up an empty gatorade bottle w/diesel, and put the supply and return lines in the bottle, prime and try to start.

Also, how are the glowplugs? Did you do a valve adjustment?

The primer will not move fuel through the IP, so checking the metal lines for fuel is only good when cranking the engine.

When did the engine stop running? After a filter swap? If so, air is in the system.

No what happened the car had sit for about 2 months, I went out and started the car up... it started fine and i let it sit and run for a few mins and then I backed up out of the driveway and when I put it in drive it just shuttered and quit when I fit the gas. Where are the supply and return hoses located?

Sounds like you have a clogged filter. The supply and return lines are on the driver side.

The line with the plastic filter is the supply. The cigar shaped hose is the return.

There are two filters in the engine bay, the primary (plastic) and the "spin on". There is also a strainer in the tank. Worry about that later.

I would replace both fuel filters in the engine bay first. Prime and try to start.

I have already done that step, both filters are new... and have plenty of fuel in them... So which hoses do i remove for the bottle of diesel?

One the drivers fender, there are two lines. The lower is the supply, the upper is the return. Dis connect those and put them in the gatorade bottle.

Did you fill the spin on w/diesel or powerservice?

It could it be a stuck ignition vacuum valve. Unhook the brown vacuum line that goes to the shutoff valve and then try to start it.
