My guess it's an EGR valve adapted to a Euro car to meet DOT emissions regulations.

I bet it is a Euro as there is no "toster" on the fender {fan resistor assy} so it must be manual AC controls. {not to mention being an '84 NA}

Look for a VIN tag on the driver A-pillar visible through the windshield. If it's of the form WDBAB33..., it's a US car. If there's no tag or it's of the form WDB123133... it's a Euro.

It's more likely to be WDB123130...
Edit: yup, I just saw the other post. |

The biggest downsides are the less powerful non-turbo engine (about 100 HP instead of 125 HP) and more difficulty finding some unique parts. Many euros have more manual features (windows, heat/AC, etc.) which can be either good or bad depending on your preference.

Definitely an EGR valve.
On a W123, the only way to absolutely know if it is Euro or not - just about anything can be replaced/changed - is to look for the bumper-shock holes on the back. If there are none, it's a Euro. (But don't get confused; even the Euros have these holes in the front).

Egr valve dilemma
Hey Members
Any suggestions what I can do with this funky Motorcraft EGR Valve. It does'nt seem to effect the running of the car at all. Should I cap it off, or replace it. Its kinda just hanging there. Any suggestions I would appreciate. BB
