1984 190D oil pan gasket leak ?

Hi all,

my car has developed a leak and it seams like it is coming from the oil pan gasket. Is there any body out here that has fixed that? It looks to me like I have to pull the engine to get to it, is that right? I searched but came up with nothing. Any help or advice would be really great! If I run the oil a little low do you think that will help in the meantime? I hate "marking my territory" wherever I go.

Thanks for everyones help in advance.

Matt

Haynes manual

Pretty much says you have to raise (not remove) the engine to remove the oil pan. Your oil level will not make any difference in leakage.

Clean the area well and confirm the source of the leak. If it's from the front of the engine, remove the fan and belt and clean the entire front cover. My 300D came to me with a severe leak that turned out to be a loose cover on the vacuum pump. From under the car, though, it looked like a leaky crank seal.

Could be a worn o-ring between the IP and the block.

Could be a loose belt tensioner arm bolt.

Could be a tired head gasket.

Thanks for the reply's. I am in the process of cleaning everything and will se if I can't find the leak. The head gasket looks good to me, would there be a big "wet spot" if it is leaking? Looks to me like it is coming from a lot lower on the engine. Lots of cleaning so I hope I can find it.

Thanks

Well, I cleaned the engine and then let it sit for a week (I was out of town). I am no closer to finding it than before. It looks like it is getting wet, with oil, right above the cross member of the frame under the engine. I cannot pinpoint where it is coming from, though. It also looks like it is leaking anti freeze from the same area. Could it be from the injector pump? How do you confirm that without pulling the engine? After a week or so, it leaves about a 1 - 2 foot round oil\antifreeze spot on the floor. It also seems to be worse if you DON'T drive it. It has really got me stumped. Any thoughts or help would be great!

Thanks,
Matt
