Bad news for my 300D
Not only did I find evidence of an accident, but some more rust that is not good.
I do not have a camera but I can describe what I found. In the trunk the right side of the luggage platform, there is a a spot where the metal has buckled. There is also rust forming there, then along the edge parallel to the bumper. Carfax gave the car a clean history with no accidents other than the time it was broken into. I know I have a leak allowing water into the rear passenger foot well. Well apparently a spot has rusted through the floor board, about dime sized, its not complete but if I push on it, its crunchy. plan is to go in and strip the tar off the floor, clean it up as best as possible to clean metal, POR-15 is and fiberglass over it. The trunk is an ongoing issue. I like my car and don't think this will kill it in a years time, maybe 10 years so anything to slow it down. i could always just sell it and buy that wagon I have been wanting. |

Crunchy is never a good way to describe a car!

its just another small spot.. ya know how rust starts and you can crunch it.
I also have a spot that I have been watching for 3 years on my left rear fender that was caused by some PO not having a grommet on the antenna mast. I really need to get some fresh metal put there since it made a hole in the trunk. I can deal with the issue in the trunk, the metal bowing in or w/e, but rust, scares me. I seriously need to get off my arse and do something about that leak getting into my car. I've tried everything. I have a snake to get into the drain now. |

I bet you have a rust hole around the hood spring letting water in the rear floor. I had the same problem a year back, I JB welded a piece of metal over the hole and then painted it and then I put a coat of truck bed liner so I wouldn't rust out again. You can't even see the repair since it was so far back in the little tunnel where the hinge connects to the body.
As for the rust in the trunk spray some rust stop on it until you get around to painting the whole car. Maybe that will slow down the rust.

I cleaned out that spot the last time I did the engine compartment and there was no rust at all, just the usual chewed up battery tray, but no rust under that. when I first got the car those crevaces were packed with leaves and crud.
It could be my front windshield gasket, its original.. lol water is getting into my trunk somehow, I tried by sealing up the rear tail lamp lense better, but it didn't work. I was bored so I used my snake on all 4 drains for the sunroof, nothing in them, Good. Last edited by TheDon; 07-06-2008 at 02:36 PM. |

If you need a piece of metal around the antenna for patching, that could be arranged, I just retired the 80 last week. (rust fatality)
