W123 headlight bezel question/opinions

Not particularly diesel related but:

Has anyone else with aged/damaged headlight "doors" or bezels (I prefer bezels) simply removed the plastic covering and ran them, vanes in the wind?

I did, and I think it looks pretty nice. I even removed my bezels and grill plastic and sprayed them satin black. A nice fresh "fierce" look.

I'll try to get pics, anyone done anything special to spruce up the front of their 123?

I very much prefer the square euro lights but my intercooler tubes prevent their use.

They look OKAY IMO...maybe if the glass was transparent rather than all broken up by the beam refractor ridges. And for some reason I'm in love with my gold fogs.

I prefer the look of e-code Cibie with city lights. Fortunatly, they are brighter than the Euro headlights ankd keep the cool yellow fogs.

On mine, I replaced the yellow fogs with yellow e-code high beams too keep the look.

I removed the clear cover (because it was cracked and I am cheap) and sprayed both the louvers and the grill insert with a medium silver/gray about one shade darker than what the grill was. Looks pretty good with the maroon color of my w123.

p.s..... I added rectangular fogs below the bumper when I replaced the round fogs with high beams.

Preferences . . .

I replaced the headlights on my '85 300D with Hella H1/H4 lamps and bought new doors to go around them. IMHO, it looks pretty sharp but these appearance items are very much a personal thing. What appeals to one forum member does not necessarily appeal to all of us. The lamps have X-Pel film on the glass to reduce the chances of catching a rock and damaging the expensive glass lens.
