Yep. I can only imagine whats been piled on top of it under that tree for the last 12-14 yrs. When I got there the seller had drug it out from behind the fence. There was mud up to the rims, scuffs/scratches on the paint give me the impression it had a pile of tree branches covering it.
I took a fully charged battery, new fuel filters, fuel and some fuel hose to bottle feed it. When I arrived I spotted a can of starting fluid. He said he tried but it wouldn't turn over with his light jumper cables. So, it never got a taste of the starting fluid.
I changed the filters, rigged up a bottle with some clean fuel and installed the battery. It took about an hour or so of bleeding fuel lines to get it to finally fire up. $500 later with title in hand I drove it down the block and on the trailer. I kinda felt like the lady in the Ikea commercial. "Start the truck, start the truck!".

if you need anything for your 80 wagon... I have a complete one for parts... I paid less for mine... and it's silver. WAAAAAAAAAAAY more miles on it, and NONE of the windows work. you ought to see what these carpenters did to the regulators... ugh. never seen so much wire and solder on a piece of aluminum... but other than that the car is very nice.
I think the servo was bypassed... ya GOTTA see pics of what these I can only assume were blind rednecks did to the servo...
but for a silver rust free parts car... I think I got a good deal...
ready....
...

Baby monitor vs diesel clatter

I just replaced the vacuum lines to the shutoff and mended a few vac leaks. Now the engine shuts off with the key. Also, I replaced the windshield wiper blades.

Plus, more good news... The AC compressor works! After a diaper change and a bottle of milk I'll see what the AC guages tell me. Depending on nap time I may have a chance to check the SLS lever action.

I guess it was a long nap for Dan.
Here are some more pics of his stinkin' $500 wagon:

Is that a tranny modulator on the back of the IP? I didn't think 80's had that. My '80 didn't have it and it was a bit newer as it had ACC III.

Anybody else see something EVIL hiding in there??

And the cargo area prior to his cleaning. He said it got much better:

I'll be interested to see if he had any pressure in that AC system.

Well rested

Going out to check the AC pressures. I'm thinking I'll be needing some R12.
Had to apply 12V to the clutch to get the comp to run.

Jimmy, I'm not sure about the IP mounted trans valve. This car also has a 'thru the grill pull tab' to release the hood safety. Is that normal on the '80? All the early W126s are levers on the side underneath.

Oops... I just got handed a baby. Looks (smells) like a big delay.

AC manifold guages indicate a low charge.

Dan decided to test the SLS system and needed something for ballast to see if the rear of the wagon would rise after the ballast weight was applied.

Look at the expression on this future driver. Priceless!!!!!!!

For you folks that know Dan, can you believe that beautiful baby.....

For the MB dorks, look at how well the rear cargo area cleaned up, and get a look at that driver's seat bolster! Supports the correct mileage assumption.

Cool ... a "Bumbo". We have a blue one. Once your daughter is able to pop herself out of it on her own, you can extend it's use a bit by making sure there is fabric covering her legs. Bare skin gives a grip that aids their ability to pop out of it.
