Unhappy W123 wont shut off!

My 1984 300D isn't turning off... I think the linkage is messed up because when I hit the stop switch it wont hardly move... I had to take a screwdriver and take a piece of the linkage off and pull up on it to shut the car off... I am thinking my shut off valve is messed up. Can someone send me pictures of how the linkage looks so I can make sure something isn't outa place causing the switch not to work.

Two words when repairing shut-off, climate control and other vacuum issues
MITY-VAC.

I don't think a mity vac will assist with linkage issues...

OP. make sure your bracket on the valve cover is secure. mine came loose, and I had hardly any pedal travel and could not shut off the car...

Without a Mity Vac you could find a good vacuum line and plumb it to the (brown) shut-off valve line. When vac is applied to the valve on the IP it should shut off. If that stops it then track down the leak thru the firewall to the ignition switch.

I doubt its a linkage issue.

sounds like your vacuum shutoff on the IP isn't functioning properly, you'll need to test and see if you're getting vacuum as mentioned with the mity-vac. as for the linkage, maybe something is frozen on your IP? i will take a pic of my 1980 240D tomorrow and post it they should at least be similar. but your linkage problem and not shutting off with the key are two completly different problems.

If pushing on the stop lever does not stop it, it's a linkage issue. I had posted some measurements of the linkages some time ago, you can search for that thread. That should get you in the ball park.

If turning the key does not stop it, it's def a vac issue.
