Immaculate junkyard dash, without temp sensor hole

Howdy all, today my junkyard escapades yielded me a perfect uncracked w126 dash with flawless wood trim (only $15!). Funny thing is the car I found it in was beat to hell and full of dead rats. The problem is, my 300sd (which I'll be putting the new dash into) has the climate control temperature sensor in the dash, the new dash came from a car that had the sensor up by the cabin light. Has anyone ever dealt with swapping all the parts to move the sensor and what might this entail?

not sure about the 126, but the 123 is a very simple affair. My guess is they are similarly easy. it is a 3 peice assembly that has a grill with a small tube on top and a bigger tube on the bottom, reach through the glove box and unplug the sensor. the top grill snaps into the lower grill with a kind of ratchet so it is as easy as getting under the top grill and gently prying it up. the hole has a key in it to make sure the grill is facing the right way but it should not be to difficult to duplicate. the sensor is attached to the bottom of the grill tube so if you dont unplug it you will have to be careful to feed it up the outer tube On things like this when I am not sure I pull one from a car at the PNP, that way if I mess up removing it its not on my car

That is the way a NEW dash comes as well. You are required to CUT out the hole for the in-car sensor.

please excuse the dumb question but i haven't been around the "luxury" models much, just 240Ds. This temp sensor is for the "climate control" not an outside temp display for the cabin, yes? If it was thats one thing I would "upgrade" to

Upgrade to automatic climate control, seriously? Many of us, including myself, would prefer the manual system.

Well I've finally got my automatic climate control working flawlessly (It's amazing when it's working right) and I don't know if I want to screw up the new dash with a hole. I was thinking something along the lines of running a tube up the A-pillar and getting that headliner molding piece from the junkyard.

NO ,NO never no, not talking about fitting an automatic climate control system, and I don't want to trade my five speed gear box for an automatic , geez I should have been more clear, I would like to have an "outside temp" gauge in the cabin. My truck has one and its a feature I like. I was asking if the "luxury's" SDs and 300s have them. I want one
