I want my 300d to not be a turtle!

hello everyone, i have a 83 300d that is a turtle. yesterday i changed the 24 year old primary diesel fuel filter and the spin on. i changed the spin on last year but i know it needed both. and i also changed the air filter.

i thought hmm it might go somewhat fast but not so much. the car has a vacuum problem so that the car wont shut off and locks wont lock. it has been like that for years, but a few years back my dad messed with the car and took the right hose off and shoved a screw in and the car shuts off now. but the locks are still a no go.

its hard to explain what line it was but i have an attached picture, but the car you see is mine, i am just showing an example. if you can i would appreciate if someone let me know some info about this vacuum system and that line.

I know for a fact it has the stock injectors and the car has 134000, rarely low for a diesel, and shocked on how slow it is.

i believe i need a valve adjustment, new injectors and glow plugs. and i would love to put a new vacuum system, remove the egr, and get a direct intake it for it. hopping it can give me more boost some how. maybe a turbo rebuild and adda boost gauge.

and also does the egr removeal and intake kit even help?

Do a search on banjo bolt, boost controller, and how to clean out the line. It sounds as if your line is either plugged or disconnected.

if you see from the line that converts to 2, that 1 line part is closed on the car. and my banjo bolt line from the alda isnt a clear hose anymore, i removed the banjo bolt from the alda and it wasnt plugged up. but im sure somewhere else is. im starrting to think it is that hose, could i clean it out with an air compressor?

I'm not sure what your asking about the vacuum system. That yellow device is a check valve. It essentially isolates the vacuum reservoir and the locks from the rest of the vacuum systems that would bleed off vacuum (transmission).

If you connect the yellow check valve back up, and the car will not shut off, there is a leak in the door lock vacuum system somewhere. Usually one of the door lock actuators will have split a diaphragm (sp). That is not the key to your perceived lack of boost. If the line to the ALDA is clear, and the banjo bolt is too, try the other side of the overboost protection relay, the side that comes out of the back of the intake manifold.

when i plug the switch valve in the 2 doors in the front lock, the back dont, and the car never shuts off. i just checked the alda hose and it seems like there is a white cloudy stuff in it. can i blow air into with the aiir compressor or no?

You can disconnect the banjo from the manifold and the ALDA and blow air through the line (I'm pretty sure the overboost protection valve is normally open). Hard shifts can often be attributed to vacuum problems. Search this, there is MUCH info on how the vacuum system modulates shifts.

well im not really worried about the shifting now, im sure that can change if i ran a good synthetic tranny oil. but i just need to figure out how i can get more boost.

ALDA LINES:

1) Disconnect the lines goint to and from the switch-over valver on the firewall.

2) carefully remove the bajo bolts from the ALDA and manifold taking care not to separrate the line from the bolt and not to lose any of the washers

3) Spray carb cleaner into the lines, shake and let drain

Valve job

adjust the valves as shown in many posts

Diesel Purge

Do a diesel purge as shown in many posts.

Replace all filters (again)

What I did with my compressor is put about 10psi into the fuel liines to make sure they are clear.

Take it out and do an "Italian Tune Up" Lots of posts on that.

Once you are done with these, look up adjusting the ALDA and turn it about 3/4 turn ccw

Good Luck!

You can spray brake cleaner in the hoses and then air, to make sure they are clean. Have you hooked up a boost gauge to determine if you do or do not have boost at all? What are your 0-60 times? I can give you a couple of suggestions to increase boost, but you have to know where you're at currently. Also, I wouldn't want to increase boost without an EGT in there. The vac problem is a totally separate issue, and the easiest way to troubleshoot that is with a mityvac or similar device, working backwards from the door master lock to the trunk lock actuator.

once you get the rpms going tho, it can fly.

i hold that pedal to the floor - 60 percent of the time and it wont accelerate any faster unless i really smack that pedal and hold it on and push my feet, i will feel a boost... i have the air compressor today, but i cant find the manifold banjo anywhere...

Back top of the intake manifold near the firewall.

Surprised that someone has not already asked the obvious question . . .
