Welcome to the forum.

Helpful if you tell us the symptoms that go with it.

PO215: can be failure of the shutoff valve, can be failure to open due to faulty K40 relay not sending elect signal (will never start), can be interrupted elect signal by faulty K40 relay while driving causing shut down (instantly, as if key were turned off), can cause a surge in rpm at shutdown (leaking oring or bad valve) and a few other things too.

Safe for a short while but needs to be repaired. Some small risk a faulty SOV could lead to a fried computer.

Are you burning heated or unheated SVO or WVO, or just D2? No difficulties starting right?

The first thing I would check is if there is any fuel leaking from under the shutoff valve (SOV); it is the balck plastic valve on the drivers side of the injection pump (IP).

Use a mirror and flashlight and look around.

If its wet, it usually means the oring has deformed and/or failed and is causing that delayed shutdown problem.

First step is to replace the oring. Is pretty easy to do. Remove the nut holding the windsheild washer bottle down, disconnect the electrical plug and the move it out of the way. When that is done you can reach udner the intake manifod and use a torx bit and rachet to loosen the two bolts attaching the SOV. Spray the bolt heads clean first so the bit fits snugly. After its loose, disconnect the two fuel lines at the upper end of the lines. Push the white clips tight around the fuel line (they are horseshoe shaped spreaders, make a ringer) and disconnect them. Pull the SOV straight out and remove the whole assembly and install the new oring. Reverse to reinstall making sure the white clips are loose and floopy and that you hear a double click as they seat. Torque on those bolts is very little; 14NM if i rememebr right or use two fingers and a thumb on a 1/4 drive rachet. No more.

After replacing the oring you'll need to re-prime the fule system by manually cranking for 30 secs at a time. You can do that 3 times, resting 10 secs between each before letting he start motor cool for an hour and/or recharging the batt. When sounds like it is catching, KEEP cranking until you are absolutely CERTAIN it is already running. It wont hurt it. Otherwise you have to start re-priming all over.

On occassion, the valve itself is bad. Its about $200 and the oring is a couple of bucks.

The oring is avail from the Buy Parts tab above, the dealer, or from fryerpower.com. The latter is a forum member who put a "viton" oring kit together for the 606.962 engine. Viton will last longer than the buna rubber oring that MB uses.

I'd get the viton kit as you'll undoubtedly need the other orings later; if you are proactive, you'll swap out all the orings on the fuel liens and pre-filter with vitton now. Leave the delivery valves (DV's) for later.

Check for the leaky SOV oring. Here is the size OM606.962 o-ring size

There are a few folks running the Elsbett system with SVO here. Apparently with very few problems and there is one or two others using WVO/gasoline belnds in our engine.

No one chimes in when the forum is asked WHO has +100K mile on alternative fuels, regardless of model/engine.

Other than Dino, I would only use commercially prepared Bio personally.

98 300td error code p0215

terry,
thanks for all your help ! the oring was not wet but i replaced it anyhow . that was not it ,so i went for the selinoid ( bosch part from napa $155 ) . the car shuts right off now so i think that was it . could you tell me how to clear the check engine lite ? i wasnt real crazy about those torx screws so i replaced them with stainless socket head cap screws . i could see those being a nightmare later in life . and its alot easier to use a small allen wrench in that area .

Jim, the CEL will reset itself after three cold start, warm up, shut down and return to cold cycles. That is if there are no other lingering issues.
