300 or 240 into 1982 240d

My wife's car is a 1982 240D auto trany with a bad engine. 100k on body. I have two engines I can swap into it. 1. 1980 240d from a car w/ standard trany. 100k 2. 1984 300td from a car with auto trany. 80k.
Which would be the best swap and are there any huge problems with either?

If you have the matching driveshaft for each then its a straight swap for both. If you want the manual on the 300D engine then it becomes much more complicated.

this may become a simple choice of whether you want a standard or auto tranny. I agree, trying to adopt the 300 auto into a manual may be a problem. So, for me, I would probably go with the 240 with a manual tranny or just swap the 300 engine with the bad 240 (assuming everything matches. Also, not sure if a 240 auto trans is made for or has same ratios for a 300).

240d engine swap

My preference would be to swap the 240 that came out of a standard tranny car into my wife's 240 with her auto trany and keep the auto tranny. It's a 1980 going into a 1982. Any problems there? Someone told me there was an issue with the pilot bearing because is was a standard tranny. Also, are there any issues because of the two year difference between the 240s.
