new axles

Well persistence pays off. I called all my local suppliers, Napa, Bond, AZ etc. all remans from $112- 150 each + core. Finally searched this site and turned up Partsamerica ie Advance, Kragens,Shucks etc. Punched it up online, found and Advance Auto 25 miles away called them up and voila, brand new axles, lifetime warranty no core charge at $69.88 each! I ordered 2 and will pick them up on Wednesday.

Hope that works out for you (you get what you pay for). Lifetime warranties are fine until you remember that you have to do all the R&R work. The second and third times are much less fun.

Yes I know all that and am prepared for it. In the meantime I will get a good look at my old ones and decide if they are worth rebooting and I might try messing with that.

How about posting the part number from Advanced. If you go to the Kragen Autoparts internet site these new axles do not show up.

Good search job. I went back and looked at the Kragen Autoparts site and sure enough the new axles are there! 3 months or so ago those new axles were not listed.

If you re-boot your old axles and they fail later you still end up having to do the R&R work yourself.

I think it's been a year or more since these axles were first used by site members. They may not be just soft metal junk as there has been no negative feedback to my knowledge.

If the company producing them is a mainline supplier to one of the asian car giants they might be really pretty good. Time will tell. Price does not always reflect quality.

I get an order a couple of times a month on average out of hong kong. A lot of product is relabelled and sold by american high line companies at enourmous markups. Yet a lot of items are junk or marginal you have to pick and choose.

Sounds like a super deal to me

I wish I had known about that a year or more ago when I replaced mine. Especially for anyone whose axle boots are badly cracked, but not yet leaking. Replace both for under $150.00 and then find the parts and get the tool to successfully reboot your old ones. Sounds like the way to go.

Ain`t that the truth. bought a clutch slave cylinder for my Datsun PU.
bought the part from Kragan`s. they had two brands, Raybestos, and
Raymond I think it was. $17.00 for one and $29.00 for the Raybestos.
she said one was higher quality. so asked to see both. when I took them
out of the box they had the same exact part # on the plastic bag they
were wrapped in.
so I have the cheaper quality one.

Now back to our regualy scheduled broadcast.

Funny. It pays to take the time and look at both.

Look on the box and see if it tells you where the axles are made please.

My dad's SD needs them replaced too (as well as the diff itself)....so we too will be watching the result of these....

We have a new advanced auto parts store opening less than a mile away in probably 3-4 weeks I'd guess....we could get them there!
