Anyone know this part?
 

I am elbow deep into the drivers' side rear window on my 83 300cd. By my estimation, the motor, regulator, and window lift mechanism all work fine. I think that my problem is, as has been mentioned on this forum before, bending of the guide plate where the intermediate lever from the window lifter attaches to the plate. As the lifter goes through its range of motion, it obviously binds/torques at the extreme ends of window up/window down, and the intermediate lever "pops" off of the guide plate. In short, I am looking for a new guide plate only, not a complete regulator mechanism. Has anyone purchased such before, or have one around their shop that they would sell. My passenger side rear window works fine; upon inspection, it appears that a previous owner had a support welded into place that preserves the appropriate angles on the guide plate. Has anyone had this work done before? Would you think that a "regular" welding shop would be willing to help with a small item (for them) such as this? Thanks for any ideas/parts.

You can buy one from the dealer or get it welded at a shop.

How did you get the interior panel out of the car? I got everything loose and tryed to pry the top up and but it wouldn't move?

I didn't have too much trouble getting the panel out, but a previous owner had definately been there before me. I did discover when getting into the passenger side that the lower panel is secured to the "body wall" by a screw that is hidden beneath the lower edge of the upper panel. In other words, I had everything loose, but there was one point of fixation where the upper/lower panels overlapped (immediately posterior to the rear-most end of the coupe window). This turned out to be a screw throuth the upper edge of the lower panel. Otherwise, I removed the strike plate in the door and the "butt" and "back" components of the rear seat and just kept carefully working the panel free.

I don't know much (anything) about welding. You would guess that most shops would be willing to help with something that small (I'm just asking b/c I don't have the experience to know)?

Once everything was loose how did you pry the panel upwards?

A welding shop will do it, it doesn't matter how big($$$$$$$) or small($$). Catch my drift?

I think I did more of a sliding forward and away move to remove the whole thing. Mine are both out now, or I could go out and refamiliarize myself with exactly how it went. I do think I remember taking a few moments to figure out how to get the forward edge loose, but with gentle manipulation it finally came away from the body. I remember having to work fairly slow and gently around the front seat-belt mechanism as well. I wish that I could be more specific regarding a particular maneuver that finally released the thing, but I just kept working around the edges until it came out. There is a section on the CD Service Manual regarding all of this, though I found it of modest help at best (the pictures were hard to see).

I will try a local welding shop before trying to get a new part from the dealership. I have also sent an e-mail to Phil at FastLane, so we'll see what they come up with.

Ross - I like the way you have posted a picture with words and circles in the picture. What did you use to do this? I am working with photobucket.com and am not very happy with the results.

you can use your paint program. Find the pic, and right click, and click open with paint.

We (I had to have my wife's help) used Microsoft "Picture It! 7.0" that is installed on our computer. I guess you could use any photo editing program. I essentially asked it to let me "insert text" and "insert object (circle)" while in the editing function of the program. I had seen someone else on here use a similar feature; it sure helps me to see an actual image of some of these problems.

Thanks for the info. One of my problems is that I have to use photobucket.com to make the pictures smaller before posting. I will look for the Microsoft program.

Well, I did have a problem with the file size as well; that's why I had to post the images individually (or at least that was my novice solution to the problem). I have seen others attach multiple images to a single posting, but I ran into the file size problem. Maybe that is the utility of photobucket.com and similar options; I just don't have any experience with those.

Ross, that looks like a part that was modified by hand at the factory from a sedan part for the coupe. I have an 82 300cd myself. Most of the parts that can be are from the sedan and are modified if necessary for the coupe.

I don't think any sedan part will work. I am sorry I didn't notice your clearly identified coupe notation before.
