UPDATE!!! bad tranny modulator... is my brake booster full of tranny fluid?

"I have been getting this W123 300D T sedan ready for the road for a couple of months now... you guys have helped tremendously.. new problem...

noticed tranny fluid in the vacuum line headed for the brake booster.. the line is coming from the tranny modulator (getting the new one this afternoon...) but, Do I need to clean out the brake booster if so how? anything else?

I was looking into the area around the brake booster because the pedal is rock hard and the front brakes are working better than the rears. I am going to bleed the brakes also with new fluid..."

update section:

I rigged up a little suction device and sure enough there was about 20 oz of fluid in the brake booster... I am going to put "gas in-line filter" between the modulator and the T in the engine compartment for a good visual on that and then check the vacuum on the line with it in...

also I had repaired the rust at the top of the tranny hump where the A/C drains. I had used POR-15 and some of it ran down the side of the tranny and got all over the top bolt that holds in the tranny vacuum modulator... I cant tell you how much fun that was getting out... luckily there is an area where wires run thru by the bottom of the accelerator pedal out to the bottom of the floor pan. I had called POR-15 also and they said that automotive paint stripper will soften it. IT DID!

again just an update and thanks again....

You can remove the vacuum line to the brake booster and see if you can suck any fluid out of the booster that way. {some kind of suction pump, ie: Mityvac or similar} If you get some, pay close attention to whether its tranny or brake fluid.
Also, always look closely at brake fluid reservoir to make sure that front half AND the rear half both are full. It is easy to miss one of them being low.

thanks for the quick response.... do you think that would explain the rock hard brake pedal?

I have one on my line also.... On a side note, it will effect the way the tranny shifts. In my tranny it made it shift softer, but results will vary.
