Anybody here located in Salt Lake City?
Out of utter curiosity, is anybody else here located in Salt Lake City? I see quite a bit of w123s on the road, wondering if anybody is part of this forum.

actually the wife and I are comming out to sniff at a job in SLC labor day week. We are currently living in New Orleans. What is the vibe of the town like? conservative, liberal. do they roll up the sidealks at 9 at night?
I suppose more importantly are there any good, honest and affordable vintage diesel mercedes mechanincs around?

I have been to Salt Lake City a good # of times. the roads are all layed out around the Mormon Temple. It can be frustrating trying to get it all figured out.
They have plenty of salt to dump on the roads in the winter. Charlie

Actually, I thought the streets in Utah were laid out well. Almost all in a square, and numbered. 90th S to 30 S is 60 blocks.
Has it been changed? the culture is different, but seem to be honest hard working communities.

What car have you got? I drive through Sugarhouse on a regular basis, I hvae a w123 300D without a front grille and a bent bumper, hard to miss . Last fall in my old 1979 300D, a 190D flashed their lights at me on South Temple.. I sometimes do that, I generally get a response, one way or another.

I think the streets are fairly well laid out, most of it is in a grid. The result is instead of looking for "XYZ Avenue" you're searching for 800 East and 2,538 South, makes it easier. This is probably a bit biased (I'm a European college student) and has nothing to do with diesels but while there's plenty to do outside and in the outdoors, there's absolutely nothing to do at night. Some of it is very LDS, some of it isn't.. I'm not LDS and living in an LDS city doesn't bother me, at least not the religion aspect of it. The south of Utah is nice but the north isn't the prettiest place on earth. I don't take my cars to mechanics but for an MB, I'd use Werner's. I've heard good things from their customers and I buy parts from them, they seem fairly serious. I'd avoid the dealers. For you SLC MB diesel owners, is there a kind of an owner's club? If not, would anybody be interested in a get together of sort? Last edited by alfa 75; 08-05-2008 at 08:37 PM. |

It's not called SALT Lake City for nothing I have a 1988 Alfa that I used to drive every day, rain, shine, snow, etc. Some winter days I could only tell it was black when I looked at the roof, the rest was white. I'm sure I'll regret that in a couple of years when I start seeing the pavement through the floors.
