2.5L Turbo-Diesel MPG ? Durability ??

For 2.5L Turbo-Diesel owners....

What MPG Highway are you getting (190D Series) ?

For how many miles do these engines typically last ?

Not an owner of a 190, but here is a link to a previous mpg thread-

not a 190 owner but my 2.5 nets about 31mpg w/ ac on and driving close to90 miles a day. I usually net about 500 miles to a tank.

I get 30-32mpg. Drive back and forth to Florida alot and 50 mile round trip to work.

I do round trips from Jersey to Pa. once a week, get around 32 mpg.

Automatic ? What's the rear gear ratio ?

Deni 07-18-2008 02:32 AM

About 40 mpg or 6.5 lliters/100km at around 90 kph. It's a 5 speed manual and at that speed the engine is revving at less than 2000 rpm.

No, auto. At that speed the engine is at 2300 rpm.

Mileage

I have personally hit 40 mpg on multiple all-highway trips, at speeds from 60-70 mph. This is with a 2.5TD, 5-speed, and a 2.65 rearend. This setup is very "long legged".

WHat are you guys with 300D's getting around town? I've only had mine a week and haven't gone thru a tank yet, but would like to know what I should be getting?
Averaged only 29MPG driving it back form FL last week without cruise. Did 27 one tank and 32 another.

That is why I would love to convert mine to 5 spd; I assume that you did yours yourself. I have access to a parts car (190E 2.3) with a 5 spd, and can rob it of everything from the bell housing to the end of the driveshaft. I will be looking for a cheap used flywheel (I assume that the 2.3 gasser's is not the right one). I can get the shift assy and the pedal assy and whatever else I need. Should I change the rear end as well?

I owned a '92 300D 2.5 for a few years (wish I had kept it) and in town I got 24-26 mpg depending on my right foot. On the highway I would get 30-35. I once drove from El Paso to San Antonio, 540 miles at 90 mph and squeezed 30 mpg. Pretty good I think for 90 mph. That car handled like a dream at Autobahn speeds.
