I personaly wouldn't drive any VW if you paid me.

VW's first problem is their electronics suck.
Their second problem is they are FWD, which sucks even more.
Next comes the boy racer thing, or teenage college girl image. Their a girl car.
The real cap to all of it is the way they run, which sucks. I think they just figured out how to make an I4 run smooth in like 2000.

I had the missfortune to drive a convertable and while feeling quite gay, noticed that it flexed like a wet noodle. Another notch in the quality department!

Everytime I see a green Jetta that reminds me of the one I had a shuder and get a cold shiver!

If you want a good cheap little car that won't break and is built decent for a cheap car, get a Honda or Subaru.

I have a 2000 VW Golf TDI. It sucks. I wish I never purchased it.

It was my first experience with diesel.

I am constantly reminded of my previous ignorance.

I buy a lot of parts from Metro and my nearest dealer is Oklahoma City.

i hear good things about them where as Cable VW charges 15% on top of list and always sells ( Who then become my customers.) customers duff machines.

Well, I suppose I shouldn't grumble eh?

I would guess that this Rabbit is an '81 ( I have an '82 and the grille is different). That would mean it has a 1.6 NA (engine code CR) capable of 52 HP (DIN). Happy Motoring.

When you get around to working on it, the forum HERE is the place to hang out:

You should see how many Jettas and Beetles there are for sale at the beginning of summer here on campus. I'd say 80% of them are the base model too!

Base model = less gadgets, and those poor college kids can't do with out the power gadgets. My oldest (city girl) daughter fits that.

My youngest (country girl) is going to drive the '89 Nissan P/U. She will be the 3rd generation to drive it. It has no gadgets, but it is a 4x4 and the a/c works. I used to take her out mudding, and now that she is 18, she wants to try going through the mud.

There have been VW haters on this board for years -- and they're still here. Too bad. I bought my '00 Golf for the TDI engine and clean looks. In seven years, it's been one of the best cars I've owned. German built, very few issues. Five speed, fun to drive. Last fillup: 51 mpg, LA metro.

I haven't had too many problems with my Jetta, none serious, just some minor issues. I can tell you that all my MB's have required much more work than this car, but then again it's still fairly new. It's hard to beat the combination of torque and fuel mileage that this car offers.

I didn't even know it was possible to get a German-built Jetta or Golf in this country. Mine was assembled in Mexico like most US-bound VW's are.

Yep. Our '06 Jetta TDI was German designed, assembled in Mexico, and has a Polish built engine.

May have changed but the station wagons were made in germany I thought. Sedans in mexico. Manufactures country of manufacture information is on the door pillars. Yes the german assembled one is reputed to be better.

I was in a local VW dealer 2 months back, getting parts.

Had the 2 YO with me, so we went to look at the cars parked INSIDE!? and were, of course, approached by a salesman. Asked for a TDI- all 40 of their allotment had already sold quiet a bit earlier.

Diesel engines are easier to fuel w/ alt fuels at this time, so more peeps want them. I bet all the CNG Accords sold quick, too.

we need more crazy farmers bottling up the methane all the livestock produces- then peeps can run their gasser on chicken$hit. leave the diesels for peeps that enjoy them.

Some early A4 Golfs were German-built, including mine, with a W vin number. Frankly, not sure if it makes any difference in quality where they were produced. After eight years, no squeaks or rattles.

I've spent far more maintaining the MB than the VW. That said, after 17 years, the 300D interior looks nearly perfect, with the only blemish some cracks in the wood finish around the shifter. It even has the original floor matts at 280K.
