front suspension 87 300SDL
3 Attachment(s)
Recent purchased and i'm finding new stuff every day.
pics: 1. passenger Upper control arm boot cracked & dry. I assume this need replacing. 2. passenger LCA bushing. moves just a little, maybe a 1/16" vertical. drivers side good. makes noise going over bumps and vibration at 65-70. 3. yeah, what is that thing and why is there rubber sticking out of it? is it a motor mount? I've read DIY threads and I should be able to replace the UCA & LCA if I follow the directions, right? they all seem to be for a W123 though. I'm not saying its simple but do-able. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA |
Looks like you should go for the whole front end deal:
- upper control arms (ball joints are integral) - lower ball joints - LCA inboard bushings - guide rod bushings - guide rod mount bushings (in the third picture, 2 per side) - guide rod bushings at LCA - sway bar end bushings - sway bar middle bushings Start looking for a spring compressor if you will DIY. Otherwise it's about $2000 for parts an labor at an independent shop. How do the steering bits look? Sixto 87 300D |
suspension 87 300 sdl
thanks sixto, I don't know what steering bits are. steering seems to be pretty good with no play just vibration at 65-70. still seems driveable around town but i'm leery of taking a long trip. are there threads with pics and names to helpo me identify those things you mentioned, like guide bushings, sway bars, etc.
I've been around cars a long time but never botrhered to learn all the terms for the steering and suspension. |

Here's a parts breakdown pilfered from performanceparts.com. You can check that site but they don't have a complete list of names either.

about my first post suspension 87 300sdl
Is there anyone in Pinellas County Florida (Tampa Bay) that I could talk to about doing these changes before I get started? a little instructions would go a long way in my confidence level if nothing else. TIA.
and thankks sixto |
