Fuel Tank Screen
 

I just finished installing the single tank WVO conversion system for my 1978 300 CD. A very savvy MB shop owner suggested that I remove the screen from the fuel tank before winter to avoid clogging at that point. He said many of the problems he has seen with WVO are related to fuel starvation, and the screen is a common culprit. I failed to ask where that screen is located. My guess is that it is at the fuel line exiting the tank. Can anyone confirm or correct my guess.

I wouldn't remove the screen, it has a purpose. It's under the tank, can't miss it. 46mm socket to remove, after you remove the line coming out of the center of it.

Judging from the foulness mine has kept in the tank and out of my filters I wouldn't remove it either. If you want better flow you can buy a replacement with a larger dia. outlet.

I have always wondered why a tank screen... my best guess is the gunk that accumulates in a fuel tank would clog up the fuel lines before it gets to a filter... who wants to replace entire fuel lines when this occurs...

Leave it in. I've been running wvo with one tank for quite a while. If temp gets cold enough to keep from flowing thru screen, you should be blending. Remember, it has to flow thru the other filters too.
