I've been searching the forum. Can anyone please tell me how to wire my 4-pin US headlight plug to the 5 pin Euro plug? I purchased a set of these, and I'm really puzzled as to how to wire them up. I even ohmed all the connections out, and it doesn't seem to work properly.

Diagrams and/or photos would be GREAT!

Thanks guys,

PE

Thank you for the link. However, that link doesn't actually tell me how to wire it up. It just shows a completed assembly.

Sincerely,

PE

I am not sure what you mean by "wiring up".

Look closely at the wire layout by colour and you will see it's different than your existing plug.

You use the same four connectors, only two or three (my memory is faded, years since I last did this) switch their positions in the connector to match the pin layout on the euro lights. If your wires are stiff it may take a bit of a fight to get them to lie down so you can snap it closed.

EDIT: Are you wondering why the extra pin? The fifth pin is for city lights, which your euro lamps may or may not have. If you search there are threads here on how to wire those up. It isn't necessary to wire those up, for the rest of the unit to function.

I purchased the DEPO's for my W123 when I had it and they quality was pretty good for knock offs. I see a set of DEPO's for the W124 on ebay right now for $183 shipped and they look pretty good as well.

Did you get the 6-prong connectors for the Euros? Possibly with the wiring still in them?

If not, I can take pics from the ones I just installed.

Hi there. These are brand new Euro lights (knockoffs) from EBay. They have a 6 prong connector on them. To my knowledge, they don't have city lights. I took them apart, and they only have Fog and an H4 bulb socket.

I actually picked up some prefabbed adapter cables, but there are no connector or wiring diagrams, nor installation instructions with any of this stuff. I tried ohming out the wires, but I must have made a mistake, because they aren't operating properly.

I think I might have deciphered the photos from the "Easy Euro Lights" link, but I need to go out and check.

Sincerely,

PE

The cables are meh, the 6 prong connectors are available in the US from the dealer and re pinning the connectors is very easy. Much cleaner install than the adapter harnesses. The euro lamps mount in the same place no need for an extra 10 inches of wires

I totally agree. I spent the $24 or so bucks on these. A big waste. In fact, the connectors they use are NOT the right size for the stock plug. I just ordered all the newer connectors from the dealer. Cheaper and will look stock and work better.

Thanks for the feedback.

Packer,

Here is a diagram I found on wiring the 6-pin connector in place of the 4-pin connector. I might be late to the dance but hopefully this helps:

YES! Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to understand the actual pin-out and what wire went to which function. This is perfect, and it does match up with the photos from the DIY Wiki. Nice!

Thank you!
