Transmission question(not what you think)

I'm fairly experienced with the working of an engine, but not so much with the working of a transmission(besides how to shift, etc.)
I have a moderate amount of machining experience(enough to get in trouble). In the fall I will have access to a machine shop with mills, lathes, and a few CNC's

In order to attach a non-Mercedes standard transmission to a 617, what types of adapters would be needed?
Obviously a plate to allow for the housings to mate, but beyond that I don't know. What would be a good transmission to toss in?

you will need a flywheel to bolt up to the crankshaft, and a clutch disk to mate to the spline on the tranny input shaft.
some form of clutch actuator will be needed as well. the MB original is hydrolic, so you will need a pedal assembly from a 240 to fit in there.
