Lowering Springs...Missed the Boat

The Vogtland buy for the w123 went through about the time I bought my car. By the time I was ready for a set, nobody was selling. After waiting several months, it looks like I am going to be out of luck getting what I want. Is there an alternate brand/set of springs that is preferred? As I said before, I would much rather have the Vogtlands, but it's looking like I'll have to take what I can get.

The Vogtlands were custom made for the diesel W123 because there are no other spring manufacturers that make them for this car. Your best bet is to look for somebody who bought them and changed their mind; that is how I got mine, and that is how the person I got them from got them.

I figured I'd ask...nobody has changed their mind in the last several months. I have had nothing but bad luck with my friends cutting springs before.

I have heard that W123 AMG springs were stock springs with one coil cut out.

I heard there is a revised rear spring design and preperations for a second run. You may want to try contacing rudolfgreen .

I'm also interested. Although I am not sure yet whether my 84 300D needs a spring change or a shock change.

Using my 85 300D as a benchmark, my 84 sits slightly lower in the back or slightly higher in the front whichever the case maybe. I'm not sure if it has the original springs as the springs do not have the colored paint marks on them. And currently, the shocks are KYBs put by the PO. They are still good so I am not enthused about changing them.

Since I am planning to put Bilsteins anyway, I thought I would wait and see if that will affect how the car sits. I doubt that it would but I would welcome some input.

Also, I wanted to know how everyone who got the vogtlands replaced their springs. Did everyone use the MB special spring compressor tool or did any 'ole spring compressor tool suffice, like the one NAPA rents?

Did yall look at the FSM ? It has a couple of pages of information on the MB springs... seems like you could go with a smaller ' wire size' as they call it... and the MB springs were cheap the last time I checked...

I was part of the vogtland group buy. Never got around to installing mine, and now I need the money more than new coils. Shoot me a PM if interested. Alternatively, you could use spring savers, available at most autoparts stores. Not going to achieve the lowering, but they do make a difference is handling, as long as they last.

I guess maybe I never understood the intent of the last Vogtland purchase. Was it then to lower the car? If so, can someone explain the benefit of the lowering?

I don't think the original intent was lowering, or at least, it was a dual objective. Primarily for me the intent was better handling, and an acceptable lowering that I was going to counteract with taller spring pads. Most people reported a less than 1 inch drop. 19mm I think.
