83 300SD Doorlock failure

I have a 1983 300SD TurboDiesel, and the door locks have stopped working. When I turned the key on the drivers door, all the other doors and truck used to unlocked, and now they don't. I can open the four doors manually, but I cannot open the truck. They key goes in about half way, but it does not open it. I was told that there might be a leak in the vacuum system that operates the door locks. How should I go about trying to fix this? What should I check first, etc....? I do have a vacuum tester but I'm not sure where I should use it? Please help. Thank you.

you might have a leak somewhere or you vac pump in the trunk is out. check the fuse first. if any one of the lock diag. is broken the enire system won't work.

Go to the passenger side remove the floor mat your should see a covered black panel, open it's lid you'll see a five(6?) way connecter.

assume vac pump works:

disconnect one vac line plug the open end of the connector with a golf tee and then try to lock/unlock it from driver side. repeat this for each vac line. if you don't hear anything from the vac pump at all then there is a problem with the vac pump.

if vac pump doesn't work:

a pump will make this much easily.

press down the door lock knob for each door manually. disconnect each vac tube and blow thru it one by one. you will see each working one "pop up". if the one for trunk release works you should be able to open the trunk by pushing the button from outside.

p/s working one should go down when you suck on it...

I've done it once that's how I got the trunk open and the problem was the passenger side door lock diag.

good luck!
