Dynamometer explanation

So I just (today) took my 79 300SD in to my local indy for my annual smog test (required in Nevada every year for vehicles under 10,000 pounds and newer than 1968).

I passed smog with 3.1% opacity (30% is allowed).

But here's what I need help with:

Part of the test was this "dynamometer" thing. I was just wondering what the numbers mean, as there were only two listed, and (as I know nothing of dynamometers) I would appreciate someone who could interpret them for me as to what they mean as well as whether they are good/bad/average/normal/OK etc.

Here they are:
Dynamometer Speed: 4000
Dynamometer Horsepower: 150

Any help with interpretation would be much appreciated.

Only if you live in the wrong part of Nevada

I wish I could help on the dyno thing, but I have no idea.

yeah, big time. Are you sure on that number? That is a very high number for a '79 SD.

btw thesst, who do you use for your smog check?
You're lucky down there in Carson Skippy. No annual extortion fees

Haha I'm pretty sure Carson is just about the ONLY place in Nevada where you don't need it. Lucky.

Last time I checked it was only required in Clark and Washoe counties.

Yeah that's why I asked... the number doesn't make sense to me. My 300SD is only factory rated at 121 HP at 4200rpm. Thus I assumed there was something I didn't understand about the results...

As to where I do it: I take it to Sierra Diesel Injection on Mill St (just off of 395). I like it because it takes them about 5-10 minutes to do the entire check, it's not a national chain, and the owners are really nice people.

That's where I have mine done too. They're top shelf, always can get all the weird little pieces I need.
Those numbers are strange. I just went and looked at one I had done there 2 weeks ago. It lists the speed at 40 and the HP at 15, with a 2.6 opacity. As i understood it, for smogs they just load the dyno wheels enough to simulate engine load at a moderate cruising speed. Maybe they forgot a decimal point?

Aha! I think you've explained it. I bet they forgot the decimal point. OK, mystery explained. Excellent.

OK I managed to dig up last years test results.

Speed: 40, HP: 15.

So I think I can safely assume that it's probably the same for this year.

Yeah, there is no way a 110hp (not 121hp) 1979 300SD is putting 150hp to the ground unless it has a Myna pump or a V8 swap.

With stock tuning that car would get only 80-85hp to the ground at full power.
