240d valve adjustment writeup.

Sorry for the bad picture quailty. my sister took her camera, and i wanted to do a video on how to do this because i needed to adjust the valves on my engine. Ive sectioned the videos up to make them easier to upload Ill try to converge them into larger ones but this is all i have for now. I know this has been done before, but im not sure if anybody has done a complete video how-to. ill post some more footage if you guys want me to.

I'm going to start checking the valves on my 240D every 6,000 miles. I had an exhaust valve that was off just a little bit, and after adjusting it, the engine opened up nicely. You need every ounce of power you can get out of these engines and after you've become comfortable with the adjustment procedure, it's a piece of cake.

Depends upon the engine of course, i usually check mine every single time the valve cover is off. (wich is usually every 6-10 thousand miles)

"im on welfare" If i had one with a magnetic base i would love to use it but i dont have the cash for it . I just did it because i had the time. Thats not a video now is it? some guys might get some more valuable information from a video as opposed to a picture. but i do suggest getting a dial gauge, its more accurate by far.

i know lol. Ill add another video if you guys want me to do timing stretch, doesnt take long to rip the cover off my timing chain is brand new, endless crimped end chain. I did this also because we get alot of repeat "how do i adjust valves on..." a sticky or adding this to the diy section would answer alot of simple FAQ's.

Nice job Cervan. I especially appreciated the footage of how the feeler gauge should grab a bit. It helped confirm that I was doing it right.

Hello, Nice job. If I remember right the Diesel Giant dvd says the lobes should be at 1pm. You did yours at 12pm. Am I missing something or is my memory faulty? Jeff
