Quick 603 IP Timing Question-IP locking tool

I just removed my IP. The IP Cam locking tool used to keep the IP in position locked with the IP slot at 12 degrees ATDC.The Manual says it should be locking at 15 deg ATDC. See Manual link:

http://mercedes.justanswer.com/uploads/rmillerphd/2008-04-19_114530_a1.pdf

I looked with a miror and the timing blade of the IP cam is center right at 12 Degrees.

So... what should I do when re-installing? Just put it all back together exactly as it was or do I need to do a little research into my engine's timing?

It ran fine. It was a little lopey at idle but seemed ok. My guess is that if anything it may be a few degrees retarded? I'm not sure though.

12* ATDC is advanced, not retarded. I would dial it back to at least 14*ATDC.

How's chain stretch? If you don't know, you can't check until the IP is back in place.

The thing I think I question is the Needle pointer's accuracy. I mentioned this in a thread a while back and then Dave from this forum (GSXR) brought it back to my memory when I asked him a few questions. I'm pretty sure the pump has only been out once (today) in the life of this car. So I put it back where the factory had it. Hopefully it's good. I retarded the timing almost as far as it would go just before all this happened with the oil leak and it seemed to run very poorly. Sooo.... I think it's on target. That's why I question the needle pointer. It may be off a hair. But I'm not tearing the head off to check! So... hopefully it's ok.

Sixto, as far as timing chain stretch, I think this is the original chain. So I'd bet it's nice and stretched! Probably should get a new one soon. That's a job I'm putting off though.

If the locking pin lined the pump up perfectly when it was installed at the factory I think the difference now might have to do with the timing chain stretch/wear on the timing gears.
If you locked the pump before your removed it and did not rotate the engine it should go back to where it was. But if it was a few degrees off before the pump was removed it should still be a few degrees of when you put it back on.
My thinking is that on an engine with wear on the Timing Gears/Chain that the IP timing pin will only get you in the ball park and you will still have to re-time the pump to get the exact timing.
On the vary last page (at the bottom) of that manual you posted after the IP Timing Pin is removed; #16 "Check start of deliveryh;set start of injection if necessary." Indicating that you should check the IP timing after the IP is installed and correct the timing if it is not correct.
