84 300DT Air Cleaner Oil System

I do not know what it is called, but there is a black box with some tubes in it that vents the crank case or whatever does in the air cleaner. Is this something that should be regularly removed and cleaned? I have the air cleaner off of the car so I am in a pretty good position to take it apart and clean it if the need exists. I imagine my answer is probably in a search somewhere, but 99.5% of my questions I answer with the search function, which means that I never actually interact with anyone on this forum

If you're talking about the oil separator that's built into the air cleaner holder, the one that you have to pry up the little metal tabs holding the lid on to get inside, then there's nothing to be cleaned in it. Its just an empty cavity with a plastic baffle at the top.

You can add some stainless steel scour pad inside to aid in oil separation.

Hmm, I do get more oil in the air filter than I would like..... Just lightly fill the cavity, no compaction at all I am assuming?

Correct, too much will obstruct airflow.

So, oil in the air filter is kinda normal? That was my question. I love this forum. Thanks for the advice, ForcedInduction! I'm going to try putting a SS scour pad in there too.

I'm currently waiting for my new Air Intake Seal Rings from Diesel Giant. I'm trying to track down all my oil leaks.

I took off the air filter housing today to clean and I think I'm leaking oil from below the air filter housing. Looks like I need a new seal between the housing and the tube that goes down below it. What's this tube called? I don't want to sound stupid at the parts store. . . I wish I knew more about the flow of oil through the car. I think I'll search for a diagram. . .

Thanks again!
