Decent deal on M1 5W-40

Oil time is coming up on my 300D so I started looking around for some deals. Joe's Sports was having a big sale so I drove down to Lakewood to check it out. They had the gallon jugs of Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck, but there was no price tag on the shelf. Did a price check and it came out to $21.99 each, so I ran back and got the second and last one on the shelf. That comes out to about $5.50/qt, just four bucks over what Autozoo is charging for Rotella T 5w-40.

Not sure if it's a sale price since there was no tag on the shelf, but it's at least a buck cheaper than buying quarts elsewhere. Seems like a good alternative to Wally World for those in the Northwest.

Is this 5W40 or 15W40? I didn't know there was a Rotella 5W40. I'm thinking lighter weight oil than 15 would be better for winter.

Its always cheaper to buy the gallon jugs instead of the quarts.

Synthetic Rotella T 5W40

$16.00 per gallon or less @ wal mart.
The nice thing about this formulation is it's high Zinc/Phosphorus additive
package 1200ppm.Especially kind to Valve-Train and Camshaft assemblies!
Everyone Else in the industry has dumped the Z/P packages at the request
of the Automobile Manufacturers(Too much chance of converter damage...
and the feds requirement of 10+ years functionality of converters...has
caused the manufacturers to say,"Screw the Valve-trains,that is the
customer's worry ,We're not going to be buying multiple converters even
at our cost.)
Errgh! I forgot Royal Purple also still has a nice Z/P additive package!

True, but it's hard to find the gallon jugs locally outside of WalMart where I don't shop.

Rotella T 5w-40; it's the "synthetic" one. It's $17.99 at Autozoo ($4.50/qt). The diesel M1 is $6.49/qt.

Hatterasguy 07-30-2008 08:36 PM
