valve wrench thickness

I plan on bending some wrenches this evening so that I can attempt the valve adjustment soon. If the ones I bend up don't work well, then I am willing to purchase them, but thought I'd give bending them a try first. I have searched this sight and found lots of good info, I have seen numerous references to grinding them to make them thinner so that they don't overlap on the lower nut, but no-one has referenced an exact thickness. They are currently 7mm thick. Any thoughts? Thanks, Alex.

My factory Hazet-brand wrenches are 6.2 mm thick so you don't have far to go.

I was going to say, I didn't grind mine down that far. My next project is getting Snap On ignition wrenches and bending them. They are thinner and forged that way, so there is no loss of strength by grinding.

I used cheapo 14mm wrenches, the nuts are not tight at all, no worries of slipping off or anything. don't destroy a 30.00 snap on wrench!

I like the Snap On's because they are longer too. Not that you need a lot of leverage, like you said, mainly because I want to?

The lower nut is the one that requires thinness.
