Changing the speedometer cable

At the transmission, I have the clamp's little 10mm loosened. (I can see a few threads under the washer on top of the little clamp.) I stuck a flat-head screwdriver into the clamp to try to pry it apart, although I don't think that did much.

EDIT: I guess I'll have to access the clamp from the rear through the transmission support and completely remove the screw.
I have it up on a ramp stand on level ground now, so I have much better access to it.

The bolt must be all the way out to allow the speedometer cable to slide out. If the old one is after market and the new one OEM, the OEM unit is a larger diameter and heftier. You may have to spread the C clamp more to allow the larger diameter cable to be inserted.

Again you must remove the entire bolt to remove the cable.

Yea, it's not all that hard if you have the space to get at it.

I originally had the car on ramps parked on a bit of a slope and I was trying to access the clamp from the side instead of the rear. That's almost impossible.

It works great now, though. Nice and smooth.
It also seems to have cured my cruise control surge.

By the way, the boot can be reinstalled into the firewall with a little silicone spray.
It is slippery and takes some poking this way and that, but it eventually works its way in.

Yeah 10-4 on the silicone spray, it can take the frustration out of a lot of rubber parts.
