Question Where did my New R4 Compressor thread go??

The three page long thread on new r4 compressors started by me with all the good information on removing the compressor, belt, and putting it back on with the stepped ports and how to torque the bolts. Any reason why this thread went bye-bye? That information would save me a lot of time. If it was removed by an Admin I would like it back minus discussing the parts sources that aren't fastlane(fastlane doesn't carry the compressor) If it was deleted as a bug, that's how it goes then.

If an entire informative thread was deleted due to simple competing parts sources listed then I think that is unnecessary.
Of course, this is their toy.
If it was deleted for some other reason then I would feel much better about it. It has been demonstrated that deleted items can be recovered. I would expect that minus the oh-so-offensive alternate parts sources.
{I bought my "reman" compressor that is in the wagon from Fastlane. Of course it was listed as a "new" one. Refund was offered but compressor was already in car. Has been working for 3 summers now!}

What kind of oil did you use in the compressor? I'm considering Bg Frigiquiet, with a new Delco r4 and r12 refrigerant. Nylog blue is for "synthetic" POE and ester oils, not sure which Nylog to use if I use Frigiquiet.

Do you have a link to the deleted thread, who started it, or what the thread was titled?

Whoops. You quoted my thread before my cooler head prevailed and I edited myself. And I was trying to be nice.
I used some type of synthetic oil and Freeze12 in that system. I would have used Frigiquiet had I know about it then. Used the Nylog that works with R12/R134a oils......

I started it, titled "NEW R4 Compressor Sources"
link: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?p=1930059#post1930059

As for the Nylog, there's the red one, which is for Mineral Oil/r12, and the other one, for Synthetic Ester/POE's/r-134a. Hmm, I might have to call ackits to find that one out.

I was following that thread, too. I a preparing to do this job in the next few weeks.

What is Nylog?

I can't find any explicit Forum Rule that was violated in any of the posts I read. It does say that "The owners of MercedesShop.com, LLC reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason."

But if it was removed b/c people were mentioning/linking to/discussing alternative part sources, perhaps that should be added to the rules?

I was not aware that was not allowed!

Here is an exerpt from the "Forum Rules:"

While MercedesShop.com encourages members to openly share their technical insight regarding Mercedes-Benz, we ask, as a matter of courtesy, that members refrain from posting links or references to competing Mercedes-Benz parts and supply vendors.

Just bought a Delco r4 compressor. The updated version with stepped ports. I hope the thread could be brought back because I don't remember what people said is the correct way to hook up the compressor and mainifold hoses.

I did a write up last year. I used the red and the green metal ports, but I had to switch the rubber washer out on one of them, but I do not remember which one. On a level surface, with the compressor face down, and checked w/a level, I experimented until the rubber parts stuck out a bit and the level would rest on them, showing a level reading.

They should have just removed the links, and also realize it is not always possible to buy from Fastlane, especially when time is short. I do buy from Phil when I can, or when I plan on doing a project a few weeks out. Aslo if I can buy local and get good parts for $$$ cheaper, then the least painful to my wallet will win. If it's a few bucks either way, Fastlane wins.

The discharge port uses the green seal, Factory Air part #24357. The suction port uses the yellow (gold) seal, #24358.

Due to the forum rules, I cannot provide the NAPA part numbers. But if you need them, do a search for TEM 407278 and TEM 407279.

Fastlane should not be so much more expensive than most of the other places.
No animosity, just the facts.......
And I have done business with Fastlane and do appreciate Phil and Roy, I just can't pay a premium all the time.
And the info deleted in the thread had merit. Like was said, just delete the offending parts links. That is why our mods are paid so much and provided with a private plane.
It's a thankless job, ain't it?
Like always, I'm just sayin'........

That is what it was. I had to switch the rubber from the gold and red so that the metal "steps" and the rubber seals would sit level.

But that was on a Hodyon (Hancock Ind) new compressor. I'm sure it can be different with other builders and rebuilders.
