My Benzo Finally got the shakes badly...

Hey everyone i have a 1985 Mercedes Benz 300d Turbo. When i first got her last year she barely shook cold starts. now shes having such a bad idle and shake its rediculas. i noticed more shake when i added my boost gauge and alot more now when i took my exhaust off my car to see what she sounds like. could that whole exhaust shake the car?? cause i noticed when i threw it back on it wasnt aligned like it use to be.

I thought it was my fuel filter/routine maintence areas.

so i put new filters and oil change.

Also there is a plastic knob on the top of the engine valve cover, after i touched that i noticed my shift points for my transmission changed...

did i mess up my car???

The shaking 300D is usually motor mounts plus/minus a valve adjustment. The motor mounts thing is common.

The plastic dealy on the valve cover sets the vacuum for the timing of the tranny shifts. There are some writeups about the little levers inside there that get worn out - perhaps you fiddling with it knocked the remains of those little plastic levers out. Find the writeup under www.dieselgiant.com or the DIY link above, then remove that plastic cap and see what you got.

He's got a 85. That white plastic piece on the valve cover is the Bowden cable - yes it will adjust the shift points. Just make small adjustments until you're back to where it was
