Thanks for the information
The problem is that the car is in Portugal, so it is very difficult to ship...
There isn't any other Mercedes with the same differential?
(Repairing is also an option if I can't find a used one at a good price)...

Same housing - yes. Same ratio - IIRC it's a 2.82 and I don't know what other MBs use that ratio. Try a V8 2.65 until you find something closer. I don't know if ASD, ASR or whatever LSD diffs available in 140s interchange.

I have a 94 S350D and it has a growl from the rearend at low speed. It tends to go away as the car heats up. I have it partially disassembled now and I'm hoping it's an inner CV joint or wheel bearing. If I can remember I'll take some pictures and post them. According to AllData.com the outer CV Joint is not replaceable, you have to replace the axle shaft. Those are expensive (1100 bucks). I'd try lubing the cv joints first. You may also want to see it the drivetrain parts from the S320's or 420's interchange, there is lots more of them around. I have around 210,000 miles on mine and it does not use oil or smoke much, has lots of power and is one kickass ride!!! As you are well aware of.

Thanks.
Mine has 223000 miles (about 360000 km's) and the engine is also very good!

Best regards

Question

I just sold my 1997 E220 Diesel classic (95HP) and bought a 2002 E270 CDI avantgarde (170hp):

But the car has two problems:

- The glow plug light is on after starting the engine.
I went yesterday to a workshop. They checked all the glow plugs and all are working fine.
After that they connected the car to a computer and check the errors.
They deleted the errors and the light was off.
But today it is on again
Anyone know what can be the cause? (the glow plugs itself are good).

- And the SRS light is also on. They also made a diagnostic test, but they were unable to isolate the problem.
They said that it could be some bad conection with the airbag "controller", or it could be the airbag controller itself with a problem.
They can only see if for example the airbags never fired in the past after acessing to the "central/controller" of the airbags...

What do you think?

Despite these problems, the car runs great.
With the engine cold it starts very well with no smoke, and the only problem I see in the car are that lights in the dashboard.
It runs very well with a lot of power.

(Sorry for any errors)

Best regards

Glow light = usually means a glow plug resistance or current draw is not to spec. If the glow plugs are good, maybe there's a ground or the relay is bad.

Since they have a computer to test for errors, what's the error code?

SRS light = common in early 140s caused by faulty switch in driver seat belt buckle. Common across the line when steering wheel contact brushes get dirty or wear out. IIRC, though, MBs of that vintage have a clockspring rather than brushes.

Thanks.
I don't remember the error code, but there were some errors that they have deleted...

These problems are in the w210, not in the w140

Wink

Hi.
The car (w140) is still in good condition.
The engine runs great.
The last oil change was 3800 miles ago and the oil is still above the minimum mark in the dipstick. I think that it hasn't any bent rod; at least I hope so...

Anyone knows the speed at which occur the different gear chances?
For example 3rd to 4th with no throttle, partial throttle, etc...
I would like to know if the speed of my changes is fine...

I remember to see a document with that information from a w126, but I never found any about the w140 350 TD...
Anyone knows?
Is it possible to find a workshop manual for this car?

Thanks!

Some more photos of my car:

Best regards!

For transmission shift points check the 722 transmission diagnostic manual, seem to recall seeing those in there. There are several of them online, I searched google for AKP722, the S350 is discussed in that manual.

Nice looking cars

Thanks!
I found here: http://w126.pp.ru/akp722.pdf

But it only has the information for full throttle and kickdown and not the speeds for no throttle...

What you have is all that I've found for shift point info. If I run across anything else I'll pass it on.

Are you having shift point difficulties?

Thanks.
No, the shifting is Ok

But I think that sometimes the transmission shifts a bit sooner than the normal. For example, in some climbs the car is in 4th gear at 28 miles with the engine at 2000 rpm, and it only downshifts to 3rd at about 25 miles (without using the "quick down" of course)...

I only would like to confirm if the shift points are ok.
