My fathers 1987 300SDL makes a ticking noise not long ago i guessing its the fuel primer, well here what happned, according to him, he told me that he was waiting on a slope with low fuel, when he got on the road the engine started to sputter then ran fine, after filling up the tank is then when he heard that ticking noise, there is fuel in the primary and secondary filter. any input would be great

That's your Cruise control "Motor" , it responds to the cruise amp (Brain)
and maintains the speed.
Look up the fuse, on the card in the top of the fuse box lid, for the cruise
control and remove it (with the engine and key off)

ReStart engine

...Does the noise go away?

Never heard one make that kind (or any kind of noise for that matter) of racket.

If it's not the CCA, then it's part of the Injection pump (I don't think so because
I can see the red plastic ELR plug in front of it on the IP)

If removing the power fuse for the CC stops the Damn noise we're 99.999%
sure it's is the cruise actuator acting up!

Whatever that thing is IT SELF DISTRUCTING AS YOU WATCH AND LISTEN TO IT
'Find out what it is powered by and turn it off.(That's a Expensive part!)

i am think that a gear lever that pulls the throttle linkage has came loose or broke??? i dont have time on right now untill the week ends, so i ll look at it at the week end

Rev it up a bit, does the tick change? Sounds like a flat lifter but its hard to tell without being their.

I doubt the cruise control has anything to do with that.

It might be the IP but I doubt it, never heard of one of those failing. Bosch made a pretty bomb proof IP for these engines.
