OMG617 into a 1960 190d?

Ive got a good OMG617 with auto trans. I LUUUUV the old Benz's. The Ponton, fintail. 1960's era. Has anybody put the 617 into one of these?

It seems like a pipe dream to be sure. Even if it would fit would the standard diff handle the power? Would engine/trans mounts have to be fabricated? Would the radiator be up to the job? Would the gauges be calibrated wrong for the temp, oil sensors?

I think I just talked myself out of this by just typing this post.

Id love to tool around in a circa 1960.s 190 fintail at 80 mph. I dont think its gonna happen.

What models has anybody stuck a 5 cyl turbo in?

It has been done. There is a thread recently by "squiggledog" who is attempting this. Expect some custom fabrication. The rear end in those cars is around a 4.0 ratio, so you will need to find a lower ratio one to swap in.

PS, it's OM617. This is this is what I would call a "OMG617":

isn't that the twin charged OM617 used in the green TD that does that monstrous set of doughnuts? There used to be more videos of that motor and vehicle but they all disappeared.

DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!!
remember when it comes to cars all it takes is time and money, if you want a OM617 in a 60's fin tail then by all means go for it!!!
It cannot be too hard. If drag racers can shoehorn a 502 into a chevette then I am sure you can do a showroom quality install of one of these fine motors (or at least get it in there and usable as a regular driver).

actually, a chevette, will almost accept the 502 as a bolt in with minor fabrication...
now a SUPERCHARGED 502 would be shoehorned...
hotrod mag built one to put on the street... never finished it though...

LOL @ "OMG" 617! Though the engine pictured is truly worthy of the title.

Yes, I am currently putting an OM617 turbo diesel engine into a 1967 W111 fintail and using the original 4 speed manual column shift transmission. This weekend the engine is coming out of the parts car.

If you really want this and don't give up easily then I recommend it. The 617 is an incredible engine, giving surprising power for its fuel economy. It will also last over 500,000 miles is properly taken care of.

The fintails are good candidates for the engine swap, and a ponton with this engine would be... cute!
