Sound insulation/deadening

Has anyone ever tried to add extra sound insulation to the cabin or engine compartment? I like the sound of diesel engines but I'd still like to make my car and ride as quiet as possible. I have some felt padding (the stuff they use under carpets) and I was considering putting it in between my new hood pad and hood, and possible adding some under the carpeting in the interior. Any ideas on this? Is the felt a bad choice of material to use? Should I use some kind of fiberglass instead? Thanks for the advice =)

Alex

Best approach is to coat some fiberglass sound deadener with aluminum, and install it between the engine and firewall.

Sound deadening

I would say you may just have to live with it. The cabin of your car is already as sound proof as it is going to get. Even if you were able to incase the whole car in some kind of sound absorbing foam, you would still be able to hear the engine. The vibration travels through the frame, to everything attached to the frame, to you. If you could remove the motor from the car and place it a short distance away. Maybe just a foot. The difference would be amazing.
