Ok, I give up for the day. So far I have the txvalve and compressor out, drier and condenser lines taken off. I'm having trouble with the connections at the low and high schrader valves.
This is what I want to do:
Two 10" Crescent wrenches won't make this line budge. I'm soaking it in PB blaster for the night.
Tomorrow I'm going to get up early, try to break those lines loose, and begin flushing everything. Is it completely necessary to break the lines near the high and low valves? Otherwise I'll just flush through them.
I also rented one of these, to turn the compressor when it's hooked up so the oil can circulate before I bump it. Is there a trick to putting this on the compressor I'm not getting?
The expansion valve I pulled from the car is original to the car... the date stamp says 11/80. It was working fine when I took it out. Think I should find out how fast the "haus" that sent me the wrong one can get me a new one, or just use the old one? There's no rust in it or anything.
Any tips or tricks to putting in the new compressor? I've heard that starting it on one bolt, then putting the ones with spacers in while it hangs on the bolt is a good idea. It's stepped ports, so the fat yellow ring will go in the suction side, and the green one in the discharge. Both should be mineral oil'ed before putting them on. I should try to get a few Oz of oil into the compressor, then the rest into the Drier, then turn the compressor many times to get the oil circulated.
Also, after I pull a vacuum to get the moisture out, then while there's still a vacuum in the system, start charging it with Freon? Or do I let the atmosphere in by pressing down on a schrader valve then charge?
Any other tips or tricks you can think of for the flushing/new compressor/recharging job?
I know, a lot of questions. I appreciate your insights to make this job easier. Thanks
