I like an obnoxious car.

When my lifters were gone, I used to take pride in starting my car late at night, after the church evening service. In a very small parking lot.

I deliberately started it without glowplugs, had the idle set low internally in the IP, so it sounded like it was on its last legs. Finally she would fire, CLACK CLACK CLACK, and smoke clouds would billow out the tail pipe as I brought the engine revs to 2K for a few ticks, and then back down. Plus, the excessive fuel that was being pumped out of the IP made for some really nasty conditions.

The kids think it's cool. Sort of like that "monster truck" stage they sometimes go through. The adults, OTOH, think I'm an immature pr*ck (which is probably closer to the truth).
I'll admit I kind of like the attention of driving a different car, although I try not to anger anyone. I'd never put a loud muffler on a car to annoy people, for example. I want my car to sound like it's supposed to sound, but I like that that sound is a little off the beaten path. Smooth diesel clatter is like sweet music to me. And I do like to run the bass for all it's worth, which isn't much on the Mercedes (stock speakers) but decent on the Jeep ... still, I turn it down when I pull into the neighborhood at 2 a.m.

Have you ever had to replace one of your front door speakers in your jeep? My daughter brought her Liberty over this weekend as her passenger front door speaker "buzzes". I showed her how to take the door panel off {not that she would EVER try in the future}. I need to find her a speaker for it, and these have some type of amp attached. Appear to be about $170 plus from the dealer. You ever have to deal with this? {speaker was blown when she bought it. Not a loud music girl}
I packed some foam inside the inner middle to take away some of the "pop", but need to find something.

She may come around, but probably not. Heck, her first boyfriend will probably drive a Camaro and have a mullet.

Hmmm ... I've never had a speaker problem, although the door speakers seem to inspire an occasional mysterious rattle from within the door (I'm not a fan of door speakers for this and other reasons). I'm not exactly sure what kind of speaker it is, but you could probably replace them with something aftermarket, although then you'd have to replace both. If you want to do that I'd go in a Tweeter or HiFi House or a store of that nature and ask them to help you pick out the appropriate speakers ... crutchfield.com also lists speakers that will fit. Are you sure it has an amp attached to the speaker, and not a crossover or something? That sounds kind of weird. I'm not that familiar with the exact setup to be honest, have not seen a wiring diagram. I'll have to see if I can find one, I'll let you know if I figure anything else out.

I took my brother for a ride in it once after it had sat for a couple of days. I started it up and his reaction was "why don't you put a saddle on the top and charge people to ride it? See how long they could stay on, it'd be like a rodeo." Though I suppose going from a late model Ford to a 300D was quite a shock for him.

.. yeah, I need motor mounts.

People never really say anything about my car....when they do its usually that its got an unseen amount of miles on it... or that its loud....which it is....as I have a straight pipe. I like it loud. If it annoys people it did its job.

I like it loud too

It's a machine. It should sound like one.

I actualy just got a compliment on my car yesterday from the owner of some property that we are buying. He was amazed that a car with that many miles and that old can look so good.

I used to get a ton, until my paint went south.
