which diesel engine for.....

reliability, longevity and low maintance
the OM 617
the OM 606
the Om 602

I know the 617 probably will fair better for reliability the 606 for performance so what about the 602???????
can you give pros and cons of each?????

All engines after the 617's have aluminum heads, which have a tendency to warp when overheated. But if you keep that from happening it's not a problem.

Thats more of an issue with the 603. The 601 and 602 don't have nearly as much of that issue.

Think of the 602 as a smaller, more modern, more efficient and just as powerful version of the 617.

I need to learn all of these 602, 617, 603, etc things.

Its like Chinese to me. When I first bought my other MB a few years ago, I had to learn the W123, W126, W220, etc... now this.

Is there a chart somewhere that signifies what engines listed above goes with what chassis for fools like me?

Thanks Bill for that link! I also discoved that my 190D has 72hp, instead of 55hp, like someone else told me. Woo-hoo!
