617 5 Cylinder Oil Tower Question
I have heard that the early 5 cylinder diesel engines (such as in the W115 300D or 240D 3.0) do not have a large oil tower, but instead have a smaller oil canister that points down. I have not been able to find pictures of one, on EPC or the Russian website.
Does anyone have any pictures of what the early canister looks like on the engine? And even better, does anyone know if I can swap the oil tower on my 1979 617 turbo engine for the early, smaller oil canister? I put a 1979 617 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine in a 1967 230S fintail, but that big honking oil tower is in the way of the brake booster and shift linkage. If I go to the earlier, smaller type, I think it will fix the problem. I have also thought of relocating the oil tower.
