It's mate is in a clip attached to the firewall, behind and just a bit to the left of the back of the valve cover. I don't know what it does but I'll look it up and in the meantime someone else will know.

If it helps at all, the part number is 126 545 04 18. 126 number on a 123. |

The 126 number just means that the part was first used in 126 cars and later "borrowed" for the 123s. EPC says "nothing found" for that number, sorry.
That cable might be from the throttle position sensor, which (I think) goes to the EGR computer, if your car has one.
