Thanks and Bye

Well, the old Grey Ghost is gone (gave her to Charity Cars) and I want to say thanks to all for the help over the past few years.

Oh and by the way, I have some leftover filters and such on sale as a lot on ebay: Click Here

cheers,

prc

You mean fill that hole in your wallet...actually this was a touch decision, but after the first tranny swap it became clear that I could choose time with kids or time under W126...weak perhaps, but then again, maybe not...

have fun,

prc

Truth is she just wasn't in good enough shape to justify the cost. I did post her here (see this thread) but understandably no one bit.

I've been driving a W126 for over 5 years and honestly it doesn't really take up much time if all you do is normal maintenance....(which is all I can currently afford $$$ to do).....this whole year I've spent maybe 25 hours working on it....thats all.....works out to about 10-12 minutes a day so far....not exactly a huge amount of time.....and most of the work was in 2-5 hour chunks....so I am not working on it like 98% of the time.

Owning my car has been extremely cheap vs. any other car (especially a new one). I've only done about $300 of maintenance on it all year so far! (including an oil and transmission fluid change!) Not to mention a yearly insurance cost of about $875.....with deer and vandalism coverage too!

It was that tranny that put me over the edge. If she didn't have the rust and the HVAC and the likely split head gasket problems, I'd probably have fixed her. Anyway, thanks for reinforcing my suppressed feelings of regret

Donating a car is a nobile cause, it helps out whatever the charity is, gives the person doing the donating a feeling of doing good. also the tax deduction at the end of the year.

I always thought the charity`s sold the cars to the general public, and maybe many do. this helps the lower income level people.

Out here on the west coast what I see more and more is Pick-N-Pull is buying these donated cars from the auctions. there are perfectly good cars that could be fueled and driven. I see Mercedes that are better than mine being stripped and crushed. all these good body parts gone forever. You guys on the east coast would give anything for some of this stuff.

Out here is Calif. the environmentalists want every old car off the road and crushed doesn`t make any difference classic, street rod what ever.

well sorry to see you go, but ya gatta do what ya gotta do.

I do agree that it was a nice move to give it to charity. From what you said it sounds like it was beyond saving.....eventually mine will probably be at that point too.....and I will have to seek out another.

I am just hoping mine makes it far enough/long enough that I am in the position to buy/own a nice W140....

I put a manual trans in my car for just that reason. Hate automatics.

I'm working on a deal right now to save a Euro 500SEC from the crusher. It pains me to see a great car go to the crusher or CAP program(shut down now in CA Due to Gov. S. (July 31 2008 ) budget cuts). Hoorah for the Classics that'll not go to the crusher right now. I'll have to jump through some hoops to save it, but I think in the long run it'll be worth it.
Wish I could save them all. I can't, but If I can save this one then I've done my part.

I've driven almost 60k in the past 5+ years with 0 issues with an auto.....it has 273,527 on it right now, shifts great....exactly like when I got it with 207k on it. Autos hold up fine with proper fluid changes.
